Training: Implementing Differentiated Instruction for Student Success
Classroom Observations & Student Evaluations for School Partners
Differentiated Instruction (DI) is a student-centered approach that adapts teaching methods, content, and assessments to address the unique needs of each learner. Through this training, educators will learn to assess student readiness, interests, and learning profiles and use that data to customize instruction, enhancing outcomes for all students, particularly those from neurodiverse backgrounds.
Key Training Modules
-
Building foundational knowledge of Differentiated Instruction (DI) principles and supporting research, this module guides educators through DI’s core components—flexible content delivery, varied instructional processes, and multiple assessment methods—while showcasing how DI fosters a dynamic classroom environment where all students can succeed, regardless of their academic or developmental starting point.
-
Strategies will be provided to assess student readiness and adjust instructional content, focusing on evaluating prior knowledge, identifying learning gaps and strengths, and modifying lesson complexity to differentiate materials, ensuring content aligns with students' understanding without causing overwhelm or disengagement.
-
Teachers will have tools to customize instructional methods based on diverse student learning preferences, exploring techniques suited for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. The focus will be on designing activities that foster critical thinking, independent learning, and problem-solving through peer learning, project-based work, and interactive tasks, ensuring all students are actively engaged in their educational process.
-
Training on flexible assessment strategies will enable students to demonstrate mastery in multiple ways. Educators will learn to design assessments that align with each student’s strengths, offering alternatives to traditional tests, such as portfolios, projects, presentations, or creative assignments. This module also covers interpreting differentiated assessment data to inform future instruction and further tailor learning strategies.
-
Fostering supportive, inclusive, and responsive classroom environments, this module helps teachers cultivate a positive culture where all students feel valued and capable. Educators will learn to promote a sense of belonging, manage classroom dynamics, and establish routines that support neurodiverse learners, including BIPOC students who may face additional socio-emotional challenges.
-
This module integrates executive functioning support into daily instruction and guides teachers in supporting students with challenges in organization, time management, and self-monitoring. Classroom accommodations, including modified assignments, extended time, visual aids, and flexible learning spaces, will be covered to ensure students with learning needs can fully access the curriculum.
-
The focus is on equipping teachers with techniques for continuous monitoring and real-time feedback. The focus is on building systems to track student progress using formative assessments and observational data. Educators will learn to adjust instructional methods based on performance and provide timely feedback that fosters growth and reinforces effective learning strategies.
-
Strengthening home-school partnerships to support students’ academic and personal development teaches educators how to communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and external support teams to create cohesive learning plans. It involves sharing progress, addressing challenges, and offering strategies for reinforcement at home while ensuring alignment between school expectations and family support systems.
